Guide to Make Money on Twitter
Twitter is a microblogging social networking site. It revolves around one simple question "What are you doing right now?"
I signed up for a Twitter account about a year ago but I never really knew what to do with it so my account stayed dormant for months. Recently it seems like everyone is twittering. Celebrities are doing it, sports figures, stores, regular people and unfortunately spammers are tweeting too. Since the recent influx of twitter fans caught my attention I decided to give Twitter another glance to see if I could tell what all the commotion was about.
Twitter is now much better than it was when I first started simply because there are so many more people on the site. This makes it more fun. You can find people that you know, stay in touch with family and friends and make new friends that share similar interests as you.
Each tweet is limited to 140 characters which is the equivalent of about 2 sentences. It keeps things short and sweet. You are allowed to post links there. A lot of my Associated Content friends post links to their articles which generates page views. I try to RT (retweet) those articles when I can. Usually they will RT my articles in the future.
The bad side of Twitter, there are people called pump and dumpers. They add people all day long to boost their followers count and as soon as you approve their friend request they delete you from their friends list. So, you are now following their spammy tweets and don't realize that they are not following you back. I have found a way to control this somewhat.
This is a great tool for people who have very long friends lists but it will work if you have a smaller friends list too. You'll have to sign up to connect the tool to your twitter account. I have found this particular tool to be a safe one. It is called Twitter Karma you can find it here http://dossy.org/twitter/karma/ It is just a tool that allows you to unfollow people who are not following you. It also enables you to bulk follow new people who have just added you and it lets you get rid of people that are unactive on Twitter. The reason why it is important for some people to keep a close eye on their follower/following ratio is because Twitter has a rule that you are only allowed to follow 2,000 people at a time. If you have 2,000 followers it will unlock another 2,000 so you will be able to follow 4,000 and so on.
How to increase your twitter following
I currently have 5,200 followers. People always ask me how I got so many. There are many ways to get followers but first you have to decide what kind of twitter account you want to have. Would you rather have thousands of followers or would you like to keep your friends list restricted to only family, friends and people you actually know and like. I prefer to have a little of both. I can distinguish from my friends and the others with the help of lists. If you want to increase your followers there are a few things you could do,
- Do not make your profile private
- RT (retweet) other people's tweets often, preferably the tweets that include a link that they will benefit from
- If someone takes the time to follow you, go ahead and follow them back
- If you really want to add followers fast, find a list that is titled "all follow back" or something like that and add all of the people on that list. I believe twitter will limit you to add only 100 people per hour but it is still a lot.
- Even better, get on one of those lists and you will be adding at least 20 people a day automatically because these people will be adding you so all you have to do is follow them back, preferably within 24 hours.
Back to Twitter. The main thing that really impressed me was how fast news travels on Twitter. I found out about the Swine Flu before most people knew there was even an outbreak. This is great in my opinion. When you are on your Twitter home page there will be a top 10 list to the right of your page that shows the hottest topics. You can even customize this list to see what is popular in your area.

There are a few different ways to make money on Twitter that I am familiar with. One legitimate way is to sell your background. There is a website called twittad that helps you find advertisers to put a background or a banner on your twitter profile. It is harmless, non-invasive and you can really earn money by doing it. For example an advertiser may offer you $5.00 to post a banner in your background for 7 days. Each 7 days you can sell your background to another advertiser. Or you can make more money by selling your background for 1 months time. The more followers you have the more the advertisers will pay. Cashout is currently $30.00 which is not bad. Now, the second way I have found to make money on Twitter is by allowing revtwt or betweeted to post a tweet on your twitter. You can make a lot of money by doing this but you don't want to do it too much because you might tick off a lot of people. If you only do it once in a while it is acceptable. Everybody else does it anyway. To start you must have at least 25 followers. You sign up with them to grant them access to your twitter. I have done it and there is no risk involved so it is safe. Then you just pick an advertisement to tweet. It will say something like this,
CELEBRITY SMILE: Become more Attractive. Get Brighter and Whiter Teeth in just 6 Days!"link will be here"
So far I haven't made a lot of money with revtwt or betweeted so I don't recommend these two sites highly but some people have had luck with it. You will earn 5 cents for everyone that clicks on the ad even if they don't buy anything. The money adds up VERY quickly and the payout is only $20.00. SPONSORED TWEETS - My Favorite
I just found a site that is much better than revtwt or betweeted. It is called Sponsored Tweets. The big difference is that they pay so much better and you are even able to set your price. They pay you an upfront price for you to tweet the ad once and then you also get paid per click. Revtwt only pays per click. My profile is worth $4.62 per tweet the last time I checked but I have found that if you lower your asking price you will get more offers. I now charge $1.00 per tweet and I get about 2 offers a day. They will even tweet it for you so it really doesn't take much time at all to earn money you just decide if you want to accept or deny the offers. Try it I think you'll like it, Sponsoredtweets is the best pay to tweet site I have come across so far. Below is my link or you can click the banner that's a little further down. MYLIKES - My 2nd Favorite
If you are on Twitter and would like to earn some extra money by getting paid to tweet then I would suggest giving MyLikes a try. You don't need to have a huge Twitter following to use this site and it won't make you look like a spammy tweeter either. I sign in once every 4 days or so and see what advertisers they have to offer then I pick ads that would apply to me. You get to write your own tweets and schedule them to tweet out once a day at the time you choose and they take care of the rest. For each click you get they will pay you about 30 cents. It adds up quickly and the minimum payout you must reach to get a payment is only $2.00 so it is very easy to reach payout weekly. If you have a large twitter following (1,000 + up) I would recommend signing up for a Sponsored Tweets account or you could sign up for both like I did.

The final way to make money on Twitter that I know of has just started so I don't really know how well it all works but it is called Adfly. This site offers a service that is very helpful to me. It shortens the length of your links so that they fit within your 140 character tweet space. I used to use a service called bit.ly but instead I use these new sites because they do the exact same thing plus they pay you.

Some say that Twitter is addicting. I have not found this to be the case with my own usage but I do find the need to check in at least once a day to respond to messages and friend requests. I am enjoying my time spent on Twitter and look forward to seeing where this website goes in the future.
